Exciting.....or is it Freaking Exciting?

There are many exciting things happening in our house these days. Sloane has started writing 3-4 letter words on paper ( I had nothing to do with it.....I'm actually shocked). She asks you how to spell...mom, dad, love and then she prints them!! Exciting!!

Sloane  has also started to take over her daily beauty regimen...from brushing the teeth to creaming her face and dressing herself. This is also exciting news since I, too, have started a new: OMG, I am 41.....hello, fine lines skin care protocol! So now we both have plenty of time to beautify ourselves.

Lastly, Sloane has increased her daily vocabulary skills which sounds exciting...but dont smile yet....bc her new vocab has seen those not so pretty F words...dropping something the other day, she says: momma, which word do you say when you drop something freaking or f**king???? This was not so exciting at all!! and thankfully, it hasn't become a daily occurrence. WTF!!!!

Something else that has been interesting...not exactly exciting is that Sloane has been challenging herself drinking. I had been pensive about blogging this new development since I wasn't sure what to make of it...but it is true. Sloane is trying to take bigger and bigger sips without losing control of the liquid and aspirating some. It was all going ok until last Friday when she took such a huge gulp that the fear in her eyes was burning at me! It was clear that she could not breath and she had scared herself to her core.

I was sitting right next to her at the island not more than one foot away. She looked at me with her eyes the sizes of plums and reached for me....wanting me to do something! I picked her up and tipped her over. A trick I had seen Mammie do with my infant niece once when she too had drank too much water. Once I tipped Sloane over, she coughed it up and out. And then came the coughs and the sobs of cries. Sloane was beyond scared as was I.  She was hanging on me like a baby sloth does on a tree limb. Seconds later, Sloane said "I can breath." and I thought so can I now!!!

Sloane continues to challenge herself with a bit more success these past few days. You can actually see her concentrating with the swallow at times. We are seeing Dr. Rahbar on Tuesday. I am expecting this to be an express visit....the surgery is planned, a scope has been done and aside from a list of questions we have there isn't much to say until May 5th.

I assume until then we will work on building Sloane's printing skills, erasing my facial lines and cleaning up Sloane's truck driver mouth!! LMAO!! There is one more exciting thing.....we are taking our show on the road! Turks and Caicos here we come. Sloane's parents have finally overcome their germ fears and have committed to taking our love bug on a plane!!! A much deserved, extremely needed and very exciting vacation will be occurring for us before Sloane's cleft is closed for a 2nd time!!

La, La, La

After teaching many years and having 2 Summer months off, I have learned that I am a person who functions better with a schedule! My lifestyle right now is a bit loosey goosey and it's being reflected in my blogging! When I have a schedule, I am much more efficient. The days are drifting by and I haven't gotten a handle on what to do when so it all gets done. My MIL asked me yesterday why I wasn't blogging anymore and I had no good answer!

Sloane is status quo until May 5th. We saw Dr. May (aka Dr. Palm/pulmonary) last week and decided to keep Sloane on the inhaler until one month after surgery. It has helped Sloane, but certainly isn't the answer to our aspiration issue. Sloane is junky as most preschoolers are these days....I can't help but think that her junk isn't just germ related. Sloane may just be aspirating more these days because she is a big girl who drinks more volume faster and can't process it. The inhaler is helping that because its steroids are designed to hit deep down in the crevices of her lungs where the aspiration secretions are sitting. This type of inhaler isn't a quick Asthma type although that kind would be nice too!

Sloane's junky cough isn't affecting her 24/7, but it is when she is actively playing. Our trip to the playground last week was not successful at all. She actually could not catch her breath from all the coughing. Not a fun sight! I am a bit worried because tomorrow she is starting gymnastics for the 1st time. I am hoping that she won't get too winded! Sloane has been dying to start tumbling and jumping!! It should be interesting.

In spite of la, la, la approach to life these daysI tried to be proactive in regards to Sloane's cleft tweak. I decided why wait until we see Dr. Rahbar on March 4th for a check up to schedule the surgery???? At that point, he may be booked up until summer. So I called and scheduled it a few weeks ago. The thing is: we know her cleft needs to be closed more so there really isn't anything to discuss other than the timing of it all. And the timing was easy to narrow down......let cold/flu season end and the fun of summer not begin! I wanted to sneak it in before Sloane hit the beach! May 5th is day.

Until then, we hope that Sloane stays healthy! She had a virus last week but fought it off like a champ! Once the fever showed up, my heart sank! Secretly, I am anxiously waiting for all the secretions/junk to get the best of her lungs. I worry constantly about it....feeling her head....listening to her breath....mentally noting the sounds of her coughs....and in between all of that I remind myself that she is a normal preschooler who is like a petri dish sponging in every germ scooting by her. Last week, when the fever burned on in....I remained calm and quiet...just waiting! And the virus blew in and blew out!! Thank you very much don't let the door hit you on the way out.....hahaha

I am convinced that Sloane is spending too much time with me. She has started redecorating our house and people's houses that we visit. Asking me if I like her decorations?? Lol! And yesterday, she emptied the toy closet out and reorganized it.. Telling me she wanted things to look better for her Valentine Party...which she isn't having so????? Last week, She moved very possible thing she could pick up in Titis living room to decorate! She forgets the re. On decorate!! Lol!! I need to remind her of the proper terminology!! Ha!

Next, she has been publicizing information. Now, I think I have said in the past that my hubby called me Oprah because I blog and text and chat for long stints on the
phone. Well, I think Sloane has taken on the career of the next Barbara Walters... In the past week, she has reported all sorts of home stories to her teachers at preschool! They have shared them or maybe just some of them with me....ha!  Not only is she telling them the story, she is telling them it with complete dramatic actions. Not good! The stories she has reported to the teachers aren't exactly about the 3 of us saying grace before we sit down to each dinner in front of the fireplace!!! Hahaha
